:) I have partitioned my 60GB hard disk to 9 partion.I installed WinME (Japanese Vers.) on first 4.5GB,Win XP Pro on 3.5 GB,2 Gb for Swap space and like wise. I was using win ME and win XP Pro for a year as multi OS boot up.Last time I mistakenely installed win 2000 Pro on my 10-12 GB(4th partition). I able to use win 2000 also but now I deleted (formated) win2000 partition(drive)

Since I am not able to start win XP Pro.I see win 2000 on my boot menu still, and when I try to start winXP it displays error message: Win 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMd start up options for Win 2000,press F-8

You can attempt to repair this file by starting win2000 Set up using the original set p floopy disk or CD-Rom. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Please help me to delete the win2000 from boot up menu and boot up win XP Pro.

On your C: drive there should be a hidden, read-only file named boot.ini. Set it so you can modify it and then open it with any text editor you like. Remove the line(s) that reference Win2000, save and close the file, and you won't see the Win2000 startup option any longer.

You damaged some startup files when you put Win2K on a system that already had a newer OS version (XP). You can repair the damage by booting to the XP install CD and going to the recovery console. Several commands there should fix you up. Take a look Here

Thanks Newt, I edited(delete win 2000) boot.ini, but still I see win2000 on boot up menu and still winXP Pro do not boot up.
I tried to repair winXP but after inserting 6th boot up floopy the error occurs that set up could not initialized. But I will try again to repair it from floopy boot.
Wish to hear from you again. If I could not repair it does I have to format my Win XP drive?

    Hello Hamapra,

I think you need to use the Recovery Console, see if this thread helps:

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21296&highlight=boot.ini

You're going to have to judge which of the following applies: If the cfg command doesn't solve it, than try the Fixboot command.
The Boot.ini file is corrupt or missing

From the Recovery Console, type bootcfg /scan to list all available Windows installations on all available disks.

Use bootcfg /rebuild to automatically replace the existing Boot.ini file; use bootcfg /add to append a Windows installation to Boot.ini without changing existing entries.

Another operating system replaced the Windows XP boot sector code. Start Recovery Console from the Windows CD and use the Fixboot command to rewrite the boot sector code. Restart your computer. The boot sector code is where XP is, on C.

All these options will be listed in the RC menu.

    Regards - Charles
