I had an XP crash. Now when I try to boot it tells me \windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt. I'm then instructed to boot using the install CD and use the repair console. When I boot the CD, press 'r', then select the OS, it goes to the blue screeen of death telling me there is a registry error and halts. If I try to reinstall XP I get the same error. How can I recover from this if I cannot even reinstall XP?

    I need help baaaad!

One small problem. It doesn't tell me how to enter the recovery console without hitting the registry error halt. Is there something special I need to do to by-pass the registry check when starting the recovery console?

Boot from the CD and you shouldn't have the problem.

I gave up. I got another HD and reinstalled XP on it. Now I'm moving stuff off the HD with the corrupt XP on it.
