    Hi all

I'm using Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite P200 10S
I was trying out the webcam (Chicony) feature in windows Live Messenger (latest version) and everything started to go crazy.
I was warned that the system was installing the MTP device, wich took ages, but never got to allow me to use the webcam, and even after saying it had sucessfully installed, it kept repeating the process ad infinitum.
Even with restarts the system would allways start re-installing the same driver....
On top of that my internet connection froze everytime it did it and eventually went down.
I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence (i was using a not too reliable wireless), but i haven't been able to logon since (for an hour).
I disabled the MTP driver (wich was marked as conflicted) on the device manager. It stopped the annoyance but now i can't even see the disabled item and i'm therefor unable to restore it in case i might need it for something else later on.

    Can you please help?

    EDIT:
turns out it was actually a problem with the wireless and not vista - i finally managed to logon.
Still worrying about the MTP issue, i've searched a lot of places but found nothing helpful.
The messenger webcam function is something i'd like to use on other ocasions, so i'd apreciate if anyone can assist me on finding out whats wrong with vista's media transfer protocol.

i will go mad if it isn't. Both cam and Vista are Toshiba retail. It's a built-in one, not usb as you might be thinking...

    I see.
Is it listed in Device Manager without any errors?

    Hi

Just a suggestion, but you may want to edit the title to Media Transfer Protocol.

I would look at uninstalling "Live Messenger ", then seeing if the webcam functioned correctly and if not, find it in Device Manager. If it was not there you may be able to install it using Add Hardware in Control Panel.

I cannot see that model at Toshiba USA, only P200-ST2061 and ST2062, so I guess it might be from Europe.

Check the downloads at Toshiba, I cannot see anything relating directly to the webcam (although some referred to as "multimedia ") and there are two different types of Display Adapter listed, which is silly (yours should be Intel, not nVidia). Get the "software updates" at least.

Check the FAQs at Toshiba, but then consider contacting them.

    Matt
