MSN Messenger problem

In recent times, after logging in to MSN Messenger, I've been able to receive messages but unable to reply to them. I'm obviously online and visible to those on my contact list because they try to start a conversation but get no reply. I must appear very rude to them! I downloaded the latest version (4.6) for W95 but the problem remains. I type out a greeting and press 'Send', but instantly I'm told that my message is not being received by all recipients. I've tried to reply to several contacts but with no success, so it's not just a problem with one person. Any ideas, anyone? Thank you.

 

Are you, perchance, hiding behind a firewall? If so, which one (ZoneAlarm, Kerio, etc, etc)?

 

Yes, I'm using ZoneAlarm, Brett. However, I've always used it and there hasn't been a problem before. Is there some configuration issue here?

 

Dunno. Maybe! Disable ZA from launching at startup, reboot and see what happens. If you can chat, we'll know it's a ZA issue. If not ... erm ... cross that bridge when we come to it

 

I closed down ZoneAlarm (not just minimized it) and then opened Messenger again. Incoming chat was received but my attempts at replying were unsuccessful once more. I signed in with another email address and password but still had the same results.

 

Did you go into ZA, alter the settings so that it doesn't load at startup and then reboot? If not, do so and see what happens.

If it doesn't work with ZA unloaded, all I can suggest is an uninstall/reinstall.
