Would open explorer (winkey-e (the key between ctrl and alt on the left side of the bottom row, use it like a shift-key)) and search for files and folders with MSN in the name and delete all you find. Also do winkey-r and type msconfig and click startup tab in the window that opens, and uncheck any mention of MSN. Let us know if that suffices; there's more that can be done if you need it.

I would bet that there is another application which when run checks to see if MSN connection center is installed and if it is not, downloads and installs it.

It could be your MSN browser software, or some seemingly innocuous program you installed when you set up your MSN.

Do a file search (Find files) for msncc.exe and see if it still exists after you uninstall the connection center.

    Hello mastercheif,

MSNCC.EXE-016D425C.pf is a prefetch entry put there by the OS for faster access of the connection center, so yes, delete it.

    Hi mastercheif,

From your first post: Now about every other day it just comes back.

The reason it keeps coming back is because MSN is reinstalling it from the connection. You'll probably find the setup file in a temp folder, Documents and Setting (under your user name) > Local Settings (a hidden folder - to see it: in the folder tools > folder options > view > and scroll down to show hidden files and folders and tick).

In Local settings > Temp. But if you delete it out of there, MSN will just reload it and reinstall it. In other words, this is a "forced" upgrade once you have MSN v9.x

Try ending it when it first appears. Outside of that, establish an on-line connection with a MSN tech explaining the problem.

This also may be may a driver issue as well - you say your modem is not being detected. Have you tried uninstalling the modem in Device Manager, rebooting and allowing the OS and MSN to re detect the modem?

Is the download accelerator enabled in the Center? That causes problems - set acceleration to normal.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi mastercheif,

Well i talked with a MSN and they said that MSN connection center will keep coming back so they said i should reinstall it and see if it finds my modem.
From what you write, the CC has reinstalled itself a number of times, so I'm not clear on what the tech thinks that will accomplish.

I had to uninstall msn connection center because when i updated my modem driver it wouldn't find the modem.
You may have to roll back that driver.

    BTW, what is the modem?

I use MSN, on one XP installation v8, on another v9. v9 got "upgraded" - one of the dumber "enhancements" from MSN

The way I handle it is to knock out CC's dialog box when it comes up and I use a security app - SSM - to block execution of the acceleration part of it (5:02:05 PM) msncc.exe was about to start C:program FilesMSNMSNIACCMSNCCWAMSNAccel.exe but was blocked That particular execute caused me grief, it corrupted my email inbox. Can't stop the CC from executing altogether because I can't connect w/o it. But, never gave me a problem like yours.

    Regards - Charles

The reason I updated my driver is because I would get a blue error screen. Now that the driver is updated it hasn't happed. Also I have a LT Win Modem.

Because I updated the driver the connection center didn't find my modem so i couldn't get on the internet, now I'am trying to set up the dialup locations for the connection, but everytime I try it says error...the server is too busy try again.

    Hi mastercheif,

Your assumption that the CC doesn't recognize the modem may not be true.

    Have you tested the modem?

If your OS is XP - forgot how to access Help in a 9X OS, search for modem in the Help and Support applet on the start menu and among the items that will display is trouble shooting.

    Regards - Charles
