I am trying to find the answer to this problem. When (sometimes) I shut down Outlook Express I get a notice of a "Msinn.exe Application Error" which reads "The instruction at Ox77f52109 referenced memory at Ox007f4808. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the programme ".

I have Windows XP pro upgraded "over the top" of W98 and working fine. I have done sfc /scannow and for a while all was OK. The problem only seems to occur if I open attachments in mail already sent and even so is very variable - I can open and close Outlook Express many time before the error recurs. It has been suggested that I should re-install OE but I am reluctant to do that and mess with registry as everything else is fine and despite the error message OE is also functioning normally. I would like to understand what is happening and whether this is a serious error and the herald of worse to come. Anyone any ideas? Thanks for your help.

    See if this helps... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q258034

Since you don't want to "play" with reg edit if the first part of the article doesn't apply I would try repairing Outlook Express/IE. To do that go to start>settings>control panel>add/remove programs. Find Outlook Express and or Internet Explorer, click on it and choose to repair it.

    Good luck.

Thank you. I have also been to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q318378 as I don't think you can uninstall/repair IE or OE from the add/remove programmes in cotrol panel in XP. For the time being everything is running well and so I have ignored the error box when it (infrequently) occurs. However it would be nice to understand what has happened....any thoughts?

I don't have access to a Win XP system but it seems you should be able to repair/remove IE in any Win OS...somehow, somewhere. But let's leave that for now.

Have you check to make sure the files aren't marked as "read only "?

What version of IE are you using? If earlier than IE 6.0 try downloading and installing version 6. That could repair any problems with OE. If you are already running 6.0 try downloading and installing it again. If there are any errors, bad dlls or files/folders that should repair them.

Let us know how it goes.

They tell me a corrupt folders.dbx file can cause this. Delete yours (must have OE closed) and it'll recreate a clean one when next opening OE. Worth a try, no harm no foul.

    :) :)

Thanks - I will try those things and post back - may be a while because the problem is so intermittent.

Ok, good luck. I should point out that we're dealing with Msimn.exe and not Msinn.exe, or at least i think we are. :D
