I am a developer (currently using Visual Studio .NET 2005) and recently had two projects that involved development of Windows Service applications (formerly referred to as NT Services). The first service was completed last week, I created the windows installer and Setup projects, built them and the install went perfectly on my Windows XP Professional SP3 machine. The service was subsequently installed on our server with no problems.

The second project is now finished and I am trying to install it on my XP Professional SP3 machine to run it for a few days before installing on the server. Problem - I am getting error message 2869 when I run the Setup.exe. I have found various messages related to this error message on Windows Vista machines, but nothing on XP Prof. I did nothing different with these two services, the setup project is EXACTLY the same between the two, with the obvious exception that they are contained within different solution files. I am baffled as to why one setup program would work and the other won't, given that I performed exactly the same steps in creating each of them.

Can someone give me some clues about what could be going on, or some advice on where to start searching for answers?
