My Browser has suddenly decided <?> to use "Use Proxy Server" as a default rather than "Automatically Detect Settings "

I can amnually change these settings, but each time I boot my system, in order to use my browser, or html messages in Eudora I must chnge these connections settings to "Automatic Detect Settings"

This is a nuisance, that I would like to avoid.

    Multiple consultants have failed.

    Hi, Dave.

Have you tried setting your proxy while in Safe Mode?

    No,

    It didn't occur to me.

    I'll try it. Thank you.

Thank you for the suggestion to use Safe Mode to make the MSIE connection change permanent, but it didn't work.

I still have to open my browser (I can do it offline) and set the connection settings to Automatic Search.

I appreciate your concern, many thanks.

Is there any reason why you wish to have "Automatically Detect Settings" enabled?

    dmchilders,

In IE, Select Tools>Internet Options and select the Connection tab.
Click on the button marked Settings for your Dial-up.
In the space where it says "Address ", is there something there?

Again in the Connection tab, click on the LAN Settings button. Is there something checked there?

    In your Registry:
    User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
    Control Panel]
    System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
    Control Panel]
    Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: (0 = disable restriction, 1 = enable restriction)

Is this the value for Connection Settings:
    Connection Settings REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

    Some info:

dmchilders mailed this in response to my question:-

I thought that DNS information was (generally) fed to a machine upon it connecting with the ISP. But maybe I'm mistaken?

If I'm not mistaken, then it would seem logical to uncheck the option to "Automatically Detect Settings" and see whether this resolves the proxy issue.
