Hello. I have done a search in the forums for this problem, and I have found a thread, but the suggestions are not working for me. Occasionally when I am browsing internet explorer, I get the error reporting dialogue, and when I check the event viewer, it says this: "Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 6.0.2800.1400, fault address 0x0005f383." I have looked in the microsoft knowledge base, and I have seen some fixes for this, but I am unable to install the update because I keep getting this message: "you must have internet explorer 6 SP1 installed." okay, so maybe i'm doing something wrong, but when i go into the "about internet explorer" menu, this is what it says:

    "version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633 "
blah, blah blah, "update versions; SP1;Q837009;Q832894;Q831167;Q826940 "

okay, so doesn't this mean that i have version 6 SP1 installed? alternatively, when i open the my computer properties, this is what it says for my windows XP version: "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 1." so why can i not install the updates? i've tried installing the one that fixes the problem with the windows xp style buttons and menus, thinking that this might be why i am getting the mshtml.dll error, but it won't let me because it says that i don't have the right version.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Scan for adware. Make sure you are current on your adware signature files, also make sure you are current on windows update. Also, make sure that you are running updated video drivers (from WU or OEM).

The component that appears to be faulting is the DLL that actually renders HTML into the document you see on the screen. Does this crash happen to you randomly, or is this reproducable by going to a specific link? I would expect that you may be frequenting a web page with some bad markup.

You are running the MS04-004 bits for IE, you should be all set on patches from that standpoint.

    mshtml.dll errors in IE

Hello! Well, I will try to scan for spyware. As far as everything else goes, windows is up to date; and i cannot reproduce the error. it happens fairly frequently, but it is random. and when it does start happening, it keeps happening every time i open internet explorer until i restart the computer. i read something in microsoft's knowledge base about some problem with XP and the xp style buttons and menus. Could this possibly be a problem? Anyway, i'll try to scan for spyware. thanks for all your help!

If the above suggestions do nothing.
To repair IE in XP, go to Start\Run, type in SFC /SCANNOW, and press Enter. Have the XP CD handy, if any files needs replacing.

I have the same (or similar) problem. The non-recognition of Windows 6 installation means that I can't use some of the MS patches. This problem is not traceable to any one web page. I do sometimes get error messages referring to msvrt.dll and once in a while, shlwapi.dll. Other forums seem to indicate this is a known problem with IE 6 without a known solution -- but I'll try anything that anyone can come up with!
(I have tried sfc/scannow and checked for spyware.)

Just wanted to add: I installed Netscape 7.1 and the same problem occurred -- at least it seems like the same problem, Netscape doesn't name mshtml.dll but rather an unidentified file.
Now I'm thinking BIOS? Odd hardware prob (I just installed new RAM and motherboard).

Click start run and type "regsvr32 mshtml.dll " (without the quotes) and click ok. It may or may not fix the problem but it can't hurt anything trying it.

I experienced that mshtml.dll problem also amongst other things. In my case it was the incompatibilty of the ddr ram with the mobo. Changed from 2100 to 2700 and have had zero problems for 5 months.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I found this thread while looking up this problem and thought I would share what I found as this mshtml.dll problem just about reduced me to tears :( (I found nothing of help online for this particular case)

This was a customers computer who had upgraded their motherboard CPU and Ram. Randomly you would get the error Iexplorer.exe has caused and invalid page fault in MSHTML.DLL. Once you got the problem it kept happening when you opened a new page.

I tried all the software fixes form Microsoft and even formating/reinstall would not make the problem go away. It would happen even in a fresh install with no updates or drivers added, also tried different OS's and versions of IE. I had to assume it was hardware but everything tested fine in diags.

It turned out the problem was running an older video card with newer motherboards. Replacing the video card or turning the AGP speed down fixed the problem. I hope this helps save people the time I wasted on this. While it looks like a software problem in all respects (all the online fixes deal with IE/mshtml versions) it turns out it can be caused by hardware.

Excellent information and thank you for posting it. I would certainly never have thought of a hardware cause for this one.

Your situation sounds like mine. It was an older card, new board and RAM. I yanked the new stuff and am looking for an older board to replace the one I've got (caps are going)-- I'm happy with the system I've got, new MOBO and RAM was barely acceptable, adding a new card made it just too much money.
Anyway, I think you answered the question.
