Last night I opened the msconfig menu to try to remove some startup programs. I disabled 2 HP printer items, and went to the general tab to try to inprove the performance. I changed the startup to basic. When I restarted my pc, my printer tries to install itself, then comes up with a RPC server not found. In addition, my taskbar and appearance changed to look like early Windows editions. I realized I ******* up, so I reopened msconfig, went to the general tab and changed the startup to load all devices and drivers. When I restarted it this time, the new taskbar, printer and appearance settings were still not right. Also, my Windows defender will not run anymore. What the sam hill did I do, and, can it be fixed?

Make sure that you have not enabled a Safe Mode startup on the General Tab of MSCONFIG.

Secondly: Hit the F8 key early and often beginning at system start. You should see the Advanced Options Menu. Select a normal startup. If that appears Okay, then again check MSCONFIG to make sure that you have re-enabled all startup items, and that no radio buttons are set for Startup Options on the General tab of.
