I am running Windows 7 Home Premium-64Bit. When i go to Start/Run/ msconfig and see the list of services in the SERVICE Tab, I see a few services are STOPPED. Among them is my Windows Search Service. I did not find a way in this place to start the Service(s). But, when I go to some other place and tried to start this Search service, I got the message "Windows could not start the Windows Search Service on Local Computer. Error 3: The System Cannot find the path specified.
What does this mean? How do I fix the problem? How does one go about Starting up the Services that are STOPPED?
    Thank.

Services can be started, stopped and disabled in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services.

However, you can't just go in and indiscriminately start or stop a Service or Services. You need to at least have an idea of what should be started, stopped, disabled, set to automatic, set to manual.

A good resource is Black Viper's chart.

If you decide to start messing around with Services, first read everything Black Viper has to say on that page about them. He knows his stuff.

If you decide to proceed, follow Black Viper's chart and use only the settings in the "Safe" column.

Checked out the link. Not quite the same situation. But checked the registry entry and mine is already as it should be.
There should be a straight forward answer somewhere as to how to fix the problem of "Error 3: The System Cannot find the Path Specified" while trying to start a service.
I also find out that my Indexing service is STOPPED and won't let me restart it in a normal fashion from anyplace!
Still hoping someone can help me.
