Something went wrong with my MS Works. Everytime I try to open it I get this error message: "Microsoft Works Works cannot access one or more required files. The files may have been renamed, deleted, or moved. Try reinstalling Works, and then starting the program again. "
I don't know what went wrong????
    I'm running WinME on a 900 AMD.

Thanks in advance for any response......

My guess is "one or more files may have been renamed, deleted, or moved" and you have to reinstall MSWorks...............

    Sorry, I just couldn't resist that. :D

    Joking aside:
It sounds like a file or path problem. Any details on what the file are? Sometimes they can be replaced either through a copy/paste or if truly "misplaced" [such as by a dragNdrop blopper], you can put them back, or as suggested by the error, reinstall Works either fresh or on-top of its self. In any case. more information is going to be needed on the particular files or it looks like your headed for a reinstall of the application.

Not familiar with Works or the version specifics but perhaps as in office 2000, it may have a Repair function. If thats's the case those members more familiar with the program specifics will have to step in here.

    ========
If this is a shortcut, you could begin by right clicking it and selecting "properites ". Check what path it is using and make sure it is the correct one. Hit the " find target" option and see if the executable can be found.

As a long time user of Works (great, simple database :D ) as well as Office 2000 I suggest you follow the advice given and don't lose any sleep about the reasons why :).

The only thing you are likely to lose are your personalised toolbars - easy enough to set up again.

I think either my wife or I may have accidentally deleted the whole program! It came installed on our PC & I don't have any disk to reinstall it from. We were trying to update it or repair it or something - I must admit I don't remember the details. Only that it was version 6.
Help! I feel totally stupid! Is there anything I can do???

It's rather unlikely that you have deleted the program by accident :) More likely it has become corrupted

Without an installation disk there is little you can do unless the installation cd was mirrored to your drive by the supplier of the PC.

    So try this -

Add/Remove programs > Works 6 > highlight > Change/Remove and select Reinstall in the dialogue box which pops up. If you are asked for the installation CD then I'm afraid you're scuppered, but if there is a mirror of the cd on your drive it should find it.

The other possibility is - do you have a Recovery disk for the PC? If so you might consider using that - with extreme caution.

Recovery disks contain a mirror of the system as originally supplied, but generally format the hard drive and restore the computer to the state in which it was delivered. . All your data and programs, etc that you loaded will be lost You must back up all your data and check that you have the installation CD's for any programs you loaded.

If you are not experinced I suggest you leave this well alone and bite the bullet and buy a copy of Works - or Works Suite.

Works 6 isn't even in the Add/Remove programs list. And the Recovery disk option is not really an option.
I don't suppose Microsoft would believe me if I told them what happened. So I guess I'm done in for..........
