MS Works 7 Spreadsheet Problem

Hi,

I am having a weird problem with opening Microsoft Works 7 Spreadsheets.
When I double click on the file, it doesn't open. This happens on some spreadsheets, but not all of them.
If I continue to click on spreadsheet files, I eventually get the following message:

"Microsoft Works
Microsoft Works cannot open another spreadsheet or database. You can have only six Works spreadsheets or databases open at one time. Close at least one spreadsheet or database and then try again. OK "

But none of the spreadsheets opened.

If I shutdown & restart the computer, some of the spreadsheets close before the computer shuts down. Then if I try to open the spreadsheets again, after rebooting, the same thing happens again.

This problem just started happening during the last two days.

I just ran AdAware & Spy Bot Search & Destroy because I thought maybe spyware was causing the problem, but this didn't help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Additional information:
I can access the spreadsheet files that I have on a floppy disk but I cannot access the identical spreadsheet files that I have on my hard drive.

 

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

No, I didn't try uninstalling & reinstalling.

As I mentioned in my post, I can access the files when they are on a floppy drive. But, if I copy these files to my hard disk, then burn them to a cd, & then try to access them, I get the following message:
"Microsoft Works
Cannot Change the Document I:\2002 Medical Bills.xlr. The Document is read only or is open by another User or Application. To change this file, Save It with a different file name OK "

If I click on OK, the Spread Sheet opens.
This file is not being used by another user or application.

I have been using MS Works Spread Sheets (various versions) for about ten years now & never had this kind of problem before.

 

I suspect some process is not fully ended and is silently stopping new processes of Works to commence.

If you can post a screen shot of running processes this may help work it out.

I managed to copy of the list of Processes from Task Manager with Paint but I cannot copy & paste nor can I include an attachment of this list.
