MS Word Problem opening documents

    bit of a strange one. I can no longer open Word documents from folders however I can open the same documents using the Open function within Word itself. When I click on a document in a folder it prompts the system to launch the Office Installer. Unfortunately I work remotely from my company's IT department and I don't possess the installation CD for Office. Excel and PowerPoint are fine.

    Possible a file association issue. Check in
    Folder Options | File Types and associate .DOC files to open with Word.
