Exactly what have you done? A format of your hard drive and a fresh install of XP and/or a reinstall of Office? We need to be clear on this before we can help you directly.

As the problem also occurs with IE it is unlikely that Office is the culprit.

I suggest you run System File Checker ....

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow noting the space before the / and have your XP CD handy. SFC will run and exit without any closing dialogue. To see which files, if any, were replaced look in Event Viewer.

While in Event Viewer look for any error messages under System and Application which are flagged with a red ciecle with a white X. Double click on a message to open and on the icon below the up/down arrows to copy to clipboard and paste in a post here - if runninf SFC does not fix your problem.
Always possible - are you running fully updated antivirus software and a firewall ( IN SP1 the firewall is OFF by default, in SP2 ON by default).

Suggest you run an on line virus scan through Quicklinks in my signature.

Post back with your results and we'll take it further if necessary.

If the problem is only with Word go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs MS Office > Change/Remove and select the Repair option.
