When I use the "Cntrl F" to find words the search query is in the search field called find what:

This query shows up at least 5 if not sometimes ten times in the future when I do a new find search.

How do I tell this "find box" to save a different search query??

    Hi, Judy.

I'm not certain exactly what problem you're describing but I'll take a stab at it. :)

    • I opened a MS Word document in MS Word 2003.
    • I used Ctrl-F to open the search window.
    • I performed a search for a word in the MS Word document.
    • Then I closed the search window.
    • Then I opened the search window again (via Ctrl-F) and the previously used search term was indeed displayed in the "Find what:" field.
    • However that search term was highlighted. I simply typed a different search term (which replaced the highlighted term) and hit the Enter key to search for the new term.
    • Then when I clicked on the down-arrow at the right end of the "Find what: field, both search terms were listed in the drop-down menu (allowing me to click the first-used search term for re-use).
After I closed the MS Word program and then opened MS Word again, I performed a new search via Ctrl-F. This time the "Find what:" field was empty.

Does this describe your program's behavior? If so, that is normal behavior for MS Word.

If my description doesn't match your program's behavior, could you describe in more detail about exactly what steps you take to produce the problem and give more detail about what the problem is?

Since I am using Word 2002 my version is different from yours. I don't have a drop down box from which to choose the keyword.

Sometimes when I use Ctrl-F to open the search window the last keyword I used is highlighted. Other times it is not. There does not seem to be any pattern as to how this happens. Sometimes I have to enter the same keyword 5 times before the system "saves" that keyword.

I would like to be able to use the same keyword for many searches I may have, but as I said, sometimes it "saves" and other times it doesn't.

    Thanks for your help.

I use Word 2002 with sp3 updates and it works exactly as mailman says. What does your Help about say?

When you press ctrl+f does it bring up the search window with three tabs saying find, replace and Goto?
