    Hi Pete,

For those like myself that use the Catalog site exclusively, this has no effect.

Absolutely right, Charles - but I suspect you are in a minority of users :)

Well, there are at least two of us ...... ...... !

Does this mean that I should NOT install KB898461?

If I don't install it, will I still be able to check for updates at Windows Update and go get them at Windows Update Catalog?

(Yesterday, I went to WUC to get KB898461 and the download took forever and after 192 kB, it stalled. I had to get it from the link in the KB-article instead. When I downloaded the latest batch of updates to Windows, it also took for ever but it didn't stall. I assume that Microsoft are trying to persuade us to install Microsoft Update ...... ......!)

    As I read it ....

You will still be able to view updates at Windows Update, but ...

if you download them from there they will not install as the installer will no longer be included in the download.

The idea seems to be to reduce download sizes and, presumably, save on bandwidth.

Are you using Windows Update v6?

    Hi Christer,

I don't know about should or shouldn't, I'm not going to install it until and if it becomes necessary, and right now its not necessary.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Pete!

Yes, it was automatically installed when I went to check for KB898461. As I mentioned in another thread, it was not offered last sunday when I downloaded the latest batch of updates to Windows.

    Hi Charles,

I have already installed it but the next time I roll back using Ghost, I will probably not reinstall it. I suppose I can uncheck it when notified of it through Automatic Update.
