    Hi everyone,

I'm currently running Outlook Express as my email programme (I know it's old, but I like it:))

When I upgrade to Windows 7 I won't be able to use it anymore :( I currently have MS Office Pro 2003 and may well acquire MS Office Ultimate 2007 which both include Outlook (which presumably I will have to use instead of Outlook Express )

I currently backup my address book and emails used in Outlook Express by copying the .wab and .dbx files from their C: location.

Question is, after a clean install of Windows 7 Pro and reinstall of either of the above versions of MS Office, will I be able to import the address book and emails into either Outlook 2003 or 2007 from the copied .wab or .dbx files?

If not, how would I be able to do this?

    Sarah

Once you get up in runing with the sugestion from Wildflower-> Backing Up Outlook 2003

This article is written for the Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders Backup tool that is available as a download from Microsoft Office Online.

The Personal Folders Backup tool is designed for use in Outlook 2002 and later and the operating systems that support each respective Outlook version. The tool provides a quick and easy way to back up the Outlook information of your choice to your hard disk or network server or share.

    Steve,

I was under the impression that sarah wanted to transfer her OE address book and mail box to Outlook, Does personal folders backup have that facility?

Thanks Wildfire and Steve for the links. I have read both and tried to understand them. It would seem to me that a backup of my OE data prior to a Windows 7 install would then require OE on the W7 PC, which I won't then have, will I?

So, would it make sense to export my OE data to Outlook 2003 prior to the W7 install, backup the data from that and then reimport into Office 2003 or 7 after the W7 install?

    What do you think?

    That's the way I'd do it :D

I should point out my original link is for your emails only but if you look on the right hand side you'll find a link to similar instructions for your address book.

Let us know how you get on.

At least you can spell my name right even though Scott :)p) can't ;)

Thanks. I shall have to reinstall Outlook (I uninstalled it because I disliked it so much! Looks like I'll have to get used to it when I go to W7). I'll let you know how I get on.

I've just realised this thread should have been in the Microsoft Mail forum (not Other Software). How do I move it?

You don't, a member of Staff may though.

You could however mark the thread resolved...

Thanks Pete and Wildfire. I'm not going to mark the thread resolved yet as I haven't done the transfer from OE to O2003 successfully yet!

I shall post more when I have................
