    Hello

I have some issues with ms outlook 2007. I have 2 users that the outlook client frequently forgets there passwords, even worse when the password is entered the outgoing and incoming server denies their credentials.

At first I thought they where forgetting there credentials so I would change there password for them and would have no issue, till the next day. I have seen the issue for my self and its quite strange. a pop up window appearers and asked for the user name and password, but fails to do anything when the correct user name and passwords are used the pop-up just keeps asking for the credentials for the incoming and out going servers. Well now its happening on a second computer in an other office, but the users of both computers are the same 2 users.

I read that its possible for the .pst files to become corrupted and cause this and some registry errors may cause this as well. Uninstalling outlook and its .pst file did not work, doing the automated repair thats built in to office 2007 did not work as well. I decided to restore the PC to a known good point be for outlook was installed and than just re-installed it fresh again which worked.
That was about a month ago and I just got a call again that the same issue is occurring again.

I asked user A if she had the issue on computer B she said "no, but had no mail even after a send and receive was performed. Even after a test email was sent as well ". She stated that she uses google mail to answer the same account ,so that could be the reason there is no mail on it (at the moment). She stated that even her gmail was acting up though, as it will take a day for recipients to receive her mail or it just flat out doesn't get delivered (thats a little off point, I don't care about her gmail right now).

User B has her issue on Computer B and hasn't been at work to test if the issue is on computer A as it is with user A.

I feel the issues with receiving mail a day later or mail not be delivered is ether server load or user error, but I felt I should mention them as well so you folks have all the info I have.

I just don't understand why the email client keeps forgetting its users credentials and when the right credentials are entered and refused as if there wrong.

What could I be dealing with?

Check the account settings for the "Authentication" setting and compare them to a known working computer.

That was first thing I looked at and its all set. I have added the accounts on my outlook in my office and have had no issues with there accounts.
Same settings as all the others.

    Exchange or POP3?

Here's a list of things to try:

When you use Outlook to connect to your Exchange server mailbox by using RPC over HTTP, you receive messages that continuously prompt you for your network password

Outlook 2007 prompts you repeatedly for a password under certain network conditions

Save password setting not retained in Outlook or Outlook Express

You are repeatedly prompted to enter your credentials when you try to connect to an Exchange mailbox by using Outlook 2007

Some users also have reported success with the following:

In Windows Explorer address bar paste %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Protect

You'll see a folder S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxx, rename the folder by adding -old to the end of the folder name.

    Restart Outlook.

The steps taken in the "Save password setting not retained in Outlook or Outlook Express" worked but only for a few hours.

I want to try the steps in "Outlook 2007 prompts you repeatedly for a password under certain network conditions" but we dont have a exchange server we just use the pop3 email provided with our website host. so I am not sure how to edit the registry.

I asume the my setting will be:
Account: Non Domain = because there isnt one
UseWindowsUserCredentials: 0 (or not present) = because the email pass is not same as the windows log-on credentials
But, I am not sure what Protocol: to use, there is TCP, HTTP with NTLM authorization and HTTP with Basic authorization.
and for Result: Prompts for user credentials and successfully connects to Microsoft Exchange. Additionally, it will continue to prompt you if you mistype your password. I will stay with that.

Since you don't have an Exchange server, there's no point in applying that fix.

I'd start with the S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxx folder tip I wrote.
