Hi guys, I want to uninstall MS Office. When I installed it from CD, my CD drive was called G. Since then I've installed a new DVD drive and it's now called F. Windows is looking for G though.

Is there an easy way to uninstall without having to rename my drive?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jo

I'm not sure why Office is asking for the disk to do a uninstall.
It's easy enough to change the drive letter though... right click 'MyComputer', then select 'Manage', select 'DriveManagement', then right click on your DVD drive, select 'Change drive letter and Paths', change the drive letter to G, uninstall Office. Then change the drive letter back to F. If the drive letter doesn't "stick" when you change it... reboot after the change, then uninstall. You shouldn't have to reboot though. HTH

Thanks Mr B. In the end I had to uninstall with the disk since add/remove programs was causing the uninstall to hang.
    I appreciate your help.

This is a new one on me too. I did not know that the uninstalls called for the CD either. I have not seen one yet anyway.

???? First a question. WHY is the new one F: ? Did you leave the old one in place ????? If the old was left in then I believe you should have BOTH G: and F: Unless there may be a jumper setting problem.

Are you asgining the drive letters or is the system doing it on auto ?

But when it asked for the CD, didn't it have a path showing what dirve it was looking for. Or when it could not find it an error messages " saying there is no CD in G: "

In either case you could have been able to change the G: to F: and I think it it should have worked.

I have run into this situation many times when I have moved stuff from one partition to another partition on the HD. But I just change the drive letter. But then I need to do a bit of Reg editing too.

Even though I just woke up enough to realized the drive went BACKWARDS a lettter. WHY did it do that ?

I may have no idea what I am talking about but here goes any way.

Now mind you I AM ASKING. And just trying to find out why it became F:

OOPPSSSS !!! The drive went BACKWARDS a letter F: comes before G:

Must be WAY TOO early in the AM. for me.

Could jumper setting and cable position have anything to do with this ?

    Drive Letters

Hi BillyBob, I don't know why the drive letter changed - maybe because G was a CD and a DVD burner wanted a different letter; my old CD burner stopped working so I unplugged it and installed a DVD burner in its slot. When I turned my PC back on F was what it called my DVD drive. Far be it from me to question the wisdom of Windows ...

As to the uninstall of Office. It was Office 95 that I only installed because I wanted to use MS Word briefly. Then I wanted it gone again. Maybe it was just early version of Office that needed the CD in the drive to make changes or uninstall. Again, far be it from me to question Sir William Gates... :p Anyway, changing the drive letter was easily done, thanks to Mr B's advice earlier.

    Thanks for your interest,
    Jo
