Is it safe to install the ActiveX control required to upgrade MS Office 2003?

Yes - bear in mind it is an ActiveX from Microsoft and can be trusted.

    Thanks PeteC

Does Microsoft have any "spies" in that ActiveX which will send info from my system to them without my knowing?

I have no way of knowing that, but I would say not. During Activation of an MS product it is clearly stated that activation is anonymous and no info is transmitted to MS other than an installation key.

    Thanks again PeteC

I'm inquiring about this BEFORE I do the updates on MS Office 2003. With all the "horror stories" on hears about Microsoft, I want to be on the cautious side.

    Office 2003 Service Pack 1?

I downloaded in installed a couple of individual updates for MS Word, Outlook and Excel 2003. Has anyone installed Office 2003 Service Pack 1? Should I install it?
