OS is Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.

Starting Excel the following pops up in Windows Installer. This just started after I did automatic MS Office Update from their website. I have a registered Ms Office with license number, etc and no other problems with MS Office except Excel.

    The popup erro

    Preparing to Install

    Error 1311 Source File -Found C:\MSO Cache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D-8CFE-0150048383C9\E2561410.CAB

If I hit cancel enough, the install and popup error goes away and I can use Excel.

I no longer have my installation disks and want this install and popup error to go away.

I used to use MS Office XP Professional and could repair the program through Add and Remove Programs. But you needed the installation disk.

    I agree.

Sounds like a cab file is missing or corrupted.

What version of MS Office 2003 are you using (Office Basic, Student & Teacher, Standard Edition, Small Business, Professional)? Seems like there should be a way to download a legitimate copy for use with your product key.

Uninstall the latest updates for Office - make a note of the KB nos, and see if the issue remains.

If it is fixed install the updates one at a time until the culprit is found.

It would be interesting to see what a Belarc Advisor report would say.
