    Hi,
When I try to open MS Word 2000 Professional SR1, I get error mssage that the feature I am trying to use is on CD so Insert the CD for Office SR-1 Professional.... I have tried the Install CD, I get the message, "The path to MS Office 2000 Professional cannot be found. Verify that you have access or try to find installation package DATA1.MSI in a folder.
Then after canceling, I get a message about not valid source.
Then I get a Word 9.0 message that says an error occurred and this feature is not functionly properly. Please run Setup and Select "Repair..." to restore this application. I tried running setup.exe from Install CD but there is no Repair function that I could find.
Then Word opens up and seems to work ok.

This just started happening out of nowhere. I use Word everyday and on this same system for about 9 months. It is Dell XP. I have not put on any Office Updates for months (since SR1 I guess).

I searched MS and Internet. I found MS Article #236597. I tried their "Already Installed Office 2000" suggestion of accessing path for Setup.exe but could not find Setup.exe on my C drive. I also tried the approach to access it on my CD Install but it could not find DATA.MSI installation package.

Any thoughts? Do I have to reinstall? Irritating to say the least.
    Thanks for your help,
    Ken

Thank you for your quick reply and a pointer to the Knowledge Base Article. That Article didn't solve it but as you said there were other references. Article #256896 described my situation and the solution was the Windows Installer Cleanup program (#290301). I downloaded the Cleanup program, followed the directions and it Worked! :) :)
While not very happy with MS right now because this should have never happened but thankful to get Word working right.

Thank you and have a good day,
    Ken

    Office XP

Does anyone know if this "fix" will work with the lastest Office XP update(s)? (The last update issued this week 10/13/04)
