Two days ago I used the MS money option to go on line. Big mistake. Eveytime i start the program now or select any of the menu items...up pops a dialogue box.

    "File Download"

    File Name - MNY24.surfplace
Type - Surfboard Shim Doc Object View
    From - Surf.mar@

Options Are - Open, Save, Cancel.

I have to open the file to continue.

I have tracked the MNY24.surfplace file to 'my user' file under Documents and settings and it resides in the Temp file in Local Settings. Also there is a file called 'Perflib_Perfdata_b4c.dat together with a number of text files that don't open. have run AVG free edition and Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot - S&D and Spyware Doctor but they all report that no problems exist. Can anybody tell me what to do next.

    MS Money hijack?

Further to my message, after talking to a friend I tried Windows Defender and MS Malicious Software Removal tool but no joy - am still told I have no problem!

    MS Money hijack?

Thank you for your reply. I have tried to read all the material you suggested but find myself a little lost! All I want to do is remove the MSN/Money linkage so I stop having to click the pop up menu to use my Money program. I do not wish to use Money as a browser.

    Open Money
    Go to Tools>Options>General tab.
Uncheck everything and select account register in the dropdown list.
Go to Connections tab and select use my default browser.

When I open Money, I get the my check register as the first page.

Thank you for your suggestions - gave them a go but still have the same problem. Would it work if I removed MS Money from my C:\ drive and install it on my second hard drive? I don't want to have to clean the drive and reload XP if I don't have to!

If you uninstall Money and then re install on another drive, it is possible to clear up some problem. You will have to redo all your preferences. It is a good idea to keep your.mny files and backup files on another partition. You should move them before you uninstall.

I keep my regular money file on another partition and back up to yet another partition and also to a USB Flash Drive.
