MS DOS based program?

    I have an older Sony Vaio notebook PCg 9241. It worked fine when I first got it for my son. But now every time it powers up it says: Windows is Now starting your MS-DOS program.
    I cant get the **** thing to abort or get back to the windows operating system at all.
    Can anyone please tell me how to get this dinasour back to normal operation?
