    Hi!

Ok, so my mother bought an mp3 player some months ago, and it's been working just fine until recently. Now it shows up as a webcam every time she plugs it in, through the usb, and it's very annoying.

I don't really know what she's done, but how would you fix this? It used to display as an mp3 device, so there is nothing wrong with the player itself.

Anyone here with experience of this?

    Hi,
Check if it is identified correctly in another Win XP or 2000 computer. If it isn't, it may need to be formatted. Since it does not show up as a drive you would need to use tools provided by the manufacturer (which should be on the CD that came with it or downloaded from the manufacturer's website). You may need to find a firmware update for it.

If it is identified correctly on another computer, there may be a problem with the USB controller drivers. You could try resetting the USB controller drivers by uninstalling anything listed as a controller under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager, they will be automatically reinstalled at reboot. To get updated drivers for the USB, find updates for the machine's chipset.

If there happens to be any software that controls webcams installed, uninstall it/them until you get the MP3 player working, then try reinstalling again.

    Matt
