    Hello Everyone,
I'm hoping someone may have the answer to this annoying problem.I bought an MP3 player, followed all the instructions for the instal etc but my computer doesn't recognise it as a new hardware item.It does appear in the Device Manager however.I have tested the USB port i'm using and it functions with everything else.I have also closed all the programmes that i know are safe to close and retried but to no avail!
I am using XP Pro with SP2 and have AMD Athlon XP 2500 +
1.83 Ghz and have 512 of Ram and still have half of an 80gig Hard Drive.

    thanks for any ideas.

    tric171,

it does appear in the Device Manager
Then the computer does see it. If there's no 'exclamation mark' in device mgr. then you're problen is the software that is supposed to play the music. Maybe try uninstalling it and reinstalling it to see what happens.

    Thanks but still no go

    Hi Sparrow,
Thanks for your input but it is still not visible as a U-Drive,I have tried everything possible.I have tried just connecting it without the supplied drivers,no go,also tried installing the supplied software and rebooting then connecting the device, the computer acknowledges it by sound but not as add new hardware. It has been tried on two other computers and it works so i have come to the conclusion that my computer has a problem with it.
I will be returning it and trying another brand and if that still doesn't work i will give up on using an MP3 Player as my computer is working well in every other way!

Just out of curiousity, what kind is it? I bought an IRiver for one of my kids for Christmas and it sort of does the same thing. When you connect it to the computer the computer recognizes it's plugged in (you hear the sound). It doesn't show up in windows explorer as a drive however, but..... the software that came with the drive see's it just fine and works as it should. We've tried the player on several computers and it's been the same on all. The conlclusion I came to is that it must not be meant to be viewed as a drive in windows explorer. I could be wrong as I haven't really tried to find out. I figured as long as the software works; why bother? Could this be what's happening on your's. Did you install any software that came with the player?
