MP3 editing software. Recommend.

I'm interested in editing MP3 files....chopping them up, splicing them together...can anyone recommend a good piece of software to do this?

It really depends on what you're wanting to do and how much you're willing to spend. Cool Edit is rather nice.

 

what do i want to do??? well, here are 2 examples which i am currently working on.

1. i have an mp3 file which when played is 20mins long. it's actually 5 songs that a friend ripped for me off an old cassette tape. i'd like to cut it up so each song is an individual mp3 file.

2. i have some old voice recordings as well (in mp3 format). i want to cut sections out and then put the file back together in one piece.

i'll give cooledit a look. either way it looks like a piece of software i could easily find uses for.
