When I go to this Hiragana website and click on the characters, Mozilla brings up a dialog box asking what to do with the WAV file that each char represents. I already have it set to open WAVs with IrfanView, but I have to keep telling it to do this. Any idea why?

    Hi shadowhawk,

Add IrfanView to your Helper Applications for Wav Files:

In Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Helper Applications
    Click on New Type
    Enter this information:

    MIME Type: audio/x-wav
    Description: Wave Sound
    Extension: wav
Open it with: (Path to IrfanView)

There is no default player for wav files, therefore you must define your Helper Application. This will stop the nag window.

Ooooooo I think I see what I did wrong. I forgot the x- before WAV. Maybe that's what it was. I'll try it out in just a bit.

    shadowhawk,

Bingo! Without the "x-wav" you will get the "Ask dialog ". The x- prefix for the content-type indicates that the extension is not considered a standard type and may change or be defined otherwise by other users.

If this doesn't do it for you then try this workaround:

    Back up your prefs.js file
Open the Netscape 7.1, and enter about:config in the location
bar. Look for a line that looks like this:
    browser.helperApps.alwaysAsk.force
Right click, and select "Modify "
Change the value to "false ".
