Mozilla hangs after install

I started using Mozilla a few months ago, upgrading after each new release. Everything was fine upto 0.9.8. When I installed 0.9.9 and tried to run the browser it hangs when it first time tries to connect to www.mozilla.org/startpage.
I just installed 1.0 RC1. Same behaviour. I can still use 0.9.8.

I tried to install on top of the existing directory, to a new directory, with a new profile. No avail!. It still hangs right at the beginning (Even the dragon animation on the right top does not come on)

Any ideas?

Creating a new Profile is the usual fix for this startup hang.

Do you have more than one Mozilla Release installed now?

Also, do you have Quick Launch enabled? If so try disabling it and see if that helps. You can find that setting under: Preferences|Advanced
