try looking in the preferences and see if there is a connection setting. Also try going back to the previous version of Firefox to see if it is working.

Also, how was this operation done? FF1.0.1 works. FF1.0.3 is downloaded, and then what? Was 1.0.1 uninstalled first, and then 1.0.3 installed? Was do you see ijn the Add/Remove. Either one, or none? I just want to make sure that the download is followed by Install.

I can't go back to FF1.0.1 becayse I uninstalled it & it is not availiable for download. Also: The first I downloaded FF1.0.4, I did not uninstall 1.0.1 first, but since then I have and have downloaded & installed 1.0.4 numerous times & still get message "connection refused" when attempting to access FF 1.0.4.

Not knowing what you did in between, I can't say much. You say download and install. any uninstall? Basically, you should be asked if you want to keep present profile or not, on uninstalling. I have no idea what is going on right now. Same profile or what? Removing the profile as well as program would start you with a clean slate. Make sure that you back up the critical files ( basically the bookmarks.html file), and start from scratch.
