I am having a small problem with my emails. When I receive an email and that person has inserted a smilely face I don't see anything but the symbol. When I click on reply then I can see the smilely face. I have my settings under Message Display set as follows: Fixed width fonts, wrap text fonts to fit window width, display emotions as graphics. Would appreciate any help that is given. Thank You so much..... :)

    Welcome to the Forum, Peggy!

    Hi Peggy,

Is this when you receive mail from everyone, or only specific senders? I have tried all settings, and cannot seem to duplicate what you describe?

    Let us know,

    Ramona

Thank You Romona.....it only happens with specific sender. And now tonight this same sender has emailed me and when I reply it will only let me type in his color and font. Very strange. Thanks for the help.

    Hi broni and Peggy,

broni, what are your Mail settings, i.e., do you use HTML formatting, etc. From Peggy's description, I was almost sure the sender was using OE, but evidently not.

Sorry to be so long in getting back to you both. Due to severe storms in my area, I had no power for a little over 27 hours. Just got my power back around 10:30 p.m. last night.

Yes, everything is send in HTML, all possible graphic related settings are on, as well.
Don't worry about any delay. It's not life threatening situation....LOL

    Hi Peggy,

How do you have your Mail setup, i.e., do you have HTML enabled, when asked what format you wish to send mail, what have you selected. Might as well cover all the bases.

broni seems to have his settings configured correctly, and you should be seeing those smiley's.

You said: "when I reply it will only let me type in his color and font ". Do you enable, "Automatically quote the original message when replying" and "start my reply below the quote "? This should allow you to move below broni's font and background color.

    Peggy,

Tonite when answering a friend's e-mail, I suddenly realized that I was only seeing the text smiley, and not the graphic smiley. In the Mail & Newsgroups, I changed the View | Message Body as | Original HTML and that allowed me to see the smiley, as well as View | Message Body as | Plain Text. I could not view the smiley's if the setting was "Simple HTML ".

Experiment with the setting and see if it fixes your viewing of smileys.

Have went to Mail/Newsgroup and I don't seem to have those options that you spoke of. Here is how I got there. Preferences/Mail-Newsgroups/Message display and under that I see Plain text message which I have a dot next to fixed width font. Only other choice there is: Variable width font. Next comes: Use the following settings when displaying quoted plain text messages: Style/Size/Color.
Next comes: When viewing plain text messages: Choices are.....Wrap text to fit window width and display emotions as graphics.....which I have check mark next to both.
Sorry this is so long, but board doesn't have no way to display a picture.

BTW...on my end, I'm getting all emoticons perfectly well.
    One more thing, Ramona....
I'm not sure, if you recall my older post, but I had a very same problem with reading my Netscape's emoticons in someone's OE mail.
They only showed as ASCII characters.
Maybe, there is some "booboo" on my system.

    Peggy,

Open Mail & Newsgroups (the Mail window)
Click on View | Message Body as
Select either Original HTML or Plain Text

See if either setting allows you to view emoticons in your messages.

I have finally resolved the problem. Last night strange things started happening with my email. It was marking email as junk and I didn't know it. So today I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Things are all fine and dandy now. So the problem all along was with my email....not Broni's.
Thank You very much Romona for taking the time and patience to help me.
