I've been using Mozilla Suite for quite a while on several different computers, and I've never seen this happen before. I have a new system and downloaded Moz 1.7.12 just about 10 days ago, set it up and have been using it regularly. I had noticed several times that when I left the desk with Mozilla open, I came back and found that nothing on the desktop was open. Lately I've actually seen it happen several times that just as I touch the mouse, Mozilla closes.

The only thing I have on this system that I haven't on any of my others is one of those aquarium screen savers, so I'm immediately skeptical of it, but I have noticed that it's not only when the screen saver is activated that this happens.

Has anybody else noticed Mozilla shutting down spontaneously??

I never even heard of this problem. Do you have an alternate browser? Or, do you know if it is Mozilla only.
I did a search, and, a number of suggestions were advanced, but none with Mozilla, exclusively. Heat was one. Is your new system working properly? However, I could not see anything which made sense to me.
I know that NS8.x was shutting down spontaneously, and, the problem was found to be due to Flash v.7. I had flash 7, but, I was also blocking flash, so, I may have had a potential problem. Flash8 works fine with NS8.

    bentley,

I haven't experienced the problem you're having with the spontaneous shutdown. Did this start last night? Could it be an evil spirit haunting you....

How about Themes, are you using a Theme other than the default? If so revert back to the default theme and see if this helps.

Temporarily disable the screen saver, and see if this makes a difference.

How about Extensions? Do you have any installed, and if so which ones? Try uninstalling them one by one to see if this stops your shutdown of Moz.

Let us know if any of the above helps.

No themes, no extensions, no heat - just a remarkably empty (noisy) system. And it's been doing it for a while, alhtough it's hard to know how long. I'll disable the screen saver and see whether that makes a difference. Since it's such an intermitant thing, it will probably take a while to find out. I was just hoping it was a previously known problem.

Anything intermittent is hard to diagnose, but I will look around. Your problem has been described with systems which have a poor air circulation. You say noisy. It could be a bad fan. However, a problem like yours will affect any program. Ironically, I saw a post, elsewhere, where a guy was having the same problem with Internet Explorer. One of the suggestions was to use Mozilla.
My suggestion is to open IE, and let it sit around for a while, and see if it does the same thing.
I am pretty sure that it is a mechanical thing.

Nothing happened last night with the screen-saver disabled, but as you say, intermittance is tough. I'll try IE, too, just to see.

The odd thing about this system is that it's missing the back-plate on the mainboard, so there's a *lot* of air circulating through there - and probably part of why it's noisy. It's a big empty case with nothing much beyond the HDD and a CD ROM.
