    Ramona:

Installed Mozilla 1.1 and when I go to the Crescendo live update page It tells me it is playing the Star Spangled Banner, but there is no sound and no crescendo icon showing. Yet, when I go to some midi pages and click no the songs, crescendo comes up and plays the music. Why won't the the Crescendo live update page work? It works ok using Netscape and IE.

It was working in Mozilla 1.0, and I uninstalled it before installing Mozilla 1.1 and I reinstalled Crescendo to the Mozilla plugin folder after it initially did not work, but it still does not work.

    Thanks,

    Marvin

    Hi Marvin,

    Hey, me too!

Crescendo works perfectly with any web page which has an embedded midi file, and any site that has midi files for listening, but it won't work on this page: http://www.liveupdate.com/
Also works on greeting card sites, when creating a card with a midi file. I was running 1.1b prior to 1.1 Final, but I don't think I ever tested the above page.

It must have to do with the fact that the page is looking for "Netscape ", or at least that's what i'm seeing in the page's code. I really don't think it's anything to worry about, as Crescendo works perfectly elsewhere. I have sent an email to Crescendo's Technical Support. I did some beta testing for them with 5.2b1, and they're terrific to work with. Hopefully I will get an answer, and if I do I most certainly will pass the information along to you.

I find that when using Netscape 7.0, I have no problem with that page, or with the Crescendo test in the Plugins folder.

    Mozilla 1.1 vs Crescendo 5.1

Thanks Ramona, I feel better now knowing it is not something that I did wrong. I was going to try some of the greeting card sites this AM, but you answered my question for me, in that the problem appears to be with the crescendo live update site. But if it works with Netscape and IE,and it worked with Mozilla 1.0, then it seems that it has something to do with Mozilla 1.1???

In maintaining Mozilla, you mentioned the history.mab file. Does Mozilla replace it when deleted and does it have any significance?

    Thanks again,

    Marvin

    Hi Marvin,

Here is an excellent page that will give you the purpose of most files in the Mozilla Profile: http://gemal.dk/mozilla/files.html

The history.mab file is where the collected addresses are kept. You can set preferences so that Mozilla will automatically collect e-mail addresses.

The address collection choices are in Edit | Preferences Mail & Newsgroups | Addressing. You can set Mozilla to automatically collect e-mail addresses from incoming mail messages, outgoing mail messages, or outgoing newsgroup postings. Mozilla puts collected e-mail addresses in a special Collected Addresses folder.

If you delete the history.mab, you will remove the collected addresses. I don't use the feature, because I think it's easier to right click the address in the email and select "Add to Address Book ". It's just more unnecessary HD space to waste, IMHO. One of those user's choices.

To answer your question about Mozilla replacing the file: if deleted, the file is not regenerated until you use the again. It can cause an APPSCOMP error if left to accumulate.

Whether or not the Crescendo web site has proprietary coding, or Mozilla 1.1 is the culprit... I just don't know. Hopefully I'll have an answer for you soon.

Thank you Ramona for taking the time to explain about the mozilla files and thanks for the link. Please keep me posted concerning the Crescendo question.

    Hi Marv6,

    Received the following from Crescendo:

    Hi Ramona,

I was able to reproduce this problem. It seems that Crescendo isn't working with Mozilla at this time. We will look into adding Mozilla support to the next version of Crescendo.

    Regards,

    Mark
    -----

Glad they will be taking Mozilla into consideration on the next version!
