    Hi All,

Hawkeye introduced the backup program for Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird on his post of 11 August named MozBackup. I tried this program for on my 2.0.16 Thunderbird a few times and the restore part of it only produced the left panel (Inbox, etc) and the mail Subject, Sender, and Date in the right panel. However when I tried to open one of these mail pieces the next screen was blank. The mail that should be there was gone. Has anyone experienced this condition? Based on my experience I'll be returning to my old method of periodically copying the profiles and installing them on an upstream partition.

Regarding backups, I'll offer the following:......

In the days of MS-DOS, I used a few different backup programs and then in Windows I've used several versions of Norton Ghost, Norton Save and Restore, and Acronis.

But, I now choose "Second Copy" as the greatest thing going.

I like it because after the initial run it does nothing more then copy the changed files.

It does a straight copy and requires nothing more then Windows Explorer to restore the files.

However, In the event you want the files compressed to save disk space it provides the options to ZIP the files up.

You can backup the complete hard drive or one folder with or without it's sub-folders.

In my case, I backup the complete drive every 3 days and then I have certain folders I back up once a day. You can also set "Second Copy" to back up more then once a day.

In the case of the subject at hand which is the Mozilla Profiles I have it set to back up my Seamonkey Profile once a day at 4 AM in the morning.

At other times in the morning hours I have it set to backup other folders and sub-folders.

I might should add that I do keep my computer turned on all time. However, in the event it has been off "Second Copy" knows that and will back up all the missed scheduled backups as soon as the computer gets booted backup.

I have an extra hard drive used strictly for my backups but, "Second Copy" will backup to just about any place including a DVD drive.

"Second Copy" has too many different options available to list them all here.

Anyone wanting a simple "get it done" backup program should give "Second Copy" a try.

After a 30 day trial, It is only $29.95 and well worth the money. After many years of looking for a simple Windows backup program I personally think "Second Copy" is it.

I believe it's best attributes are the fact it requires no "Restore Program" to copy your files back and the fact you can do scheduled backups of selected folders and it does the backups with out your knowing it.

An example is:... it takes about one minute to back up my Seamonkey Profile Folder after the initial backup and the process has no effect on the computer.

"Second Copy" can be reviewed at:... http://www.secondcopy.com

    My 2 Cents -- Ray

I have an external drive which finds everything which is not hidden by Windows, even if I did unhide the folders. So, I have to give a hand to the external drive by copying my entire profiles, and pasting them in a "visible" location. It works like a charm, and the pasted folders are backed up. So, it is up to me, everything is safely outside the hard drive.

    The Old Chief and Westside,

The original intention of my post was to determine if anyone had a similar problem of lost mail using MozBackup. Since no one responded about such a loss, I'm assuming that there is a incompatibility in that program and my techniques. In any case I have removed it from my system. I, like each of you, have a separate drive on which I keep my backups and in that respect is probably more like Westside's approach. Similarly, Ray, I have Acronis and use it for more detailed backups. The MozBackup program seemed like something that could be used strictly for the Mozilla programs. But it should be said that "Second Copy" is one of the more intelligent backup programs that I have looked at. I took the Second Copy tour and was impressed.

Thank you both for your responses.

I heard of other people having problems with MozBackup, but I have not kept upi with the details. I did a quick Search: "mozbackup problem ", and got a lot of hits. Why don't you take a look?

    Westside,

I took your advice and had a quick look at MozBackup problems. While not detailed, my impression was that there appeared to be more problems with Thunderbird and fewer with Firefox. One respondent praised the program after using it for two years but again only in terms of Firefox. It should be said that MozBackup has issued several Beta programs during the course of a more than two year development and many of the problems occurred during that development.
