There's no need for a guide. It's been a while since I did it but IIRC, open your personal folder > right-click any sub folder > properties > location > move. In the absence of Outlook Express, it's much easier in Windows 7 and I excluded Outlook from my installation of Office 2007.

Christer, is there any way to move ALL the things in one go without going through l-o-n-g process for each individual folder ?

Tony, it moves everything including ProgramData. I want to move only Documents, Pictures, Music etc. to a different drive so that my data is safe in case Windows crashes - something like /home directory on a different partition in Linux.

I am searching for a faster & easier way to do so than to right click everything & moving it one by one.

Why can't MS give us a easy way ?

How often do you move Windows 7 folders?

I moved Windows XP folders (one by one) quite often since I helped friends and other people building computers and installing software. I don't do that anymore and the reason is that they all expect life time warranty and 24-7 support.

So, finding an easy way would take longer than moving the folders one by one on a single installation. Well, to be honest, three installations ... :p ... you can't say no to some people.

Well I repair computers for a living !

So I need to do it as often as required which is more than it should be but ....

Well, XP didn't have Libraries, per se. Everything was defaulted to the My Documents folder (which was really a sort of program unto itself).

For my clients w/ XP I move the My Docs to a different partition or drive and use a backup script to copy other stuff there (psts, Favorites, software profiles, Desktop, etc). It's very efficient.

My idea exactly, Tony, but Win 7 forces you to move all the folders/libraries one by one and they call it progress. :(

I guess, from the assumed viewpoint of MS, moving Libraries is of secondary importance. I would guess their viewpoint is that backup is important, thus included in Windows 7, and that the next level would be using a server system to store Libraries' data. There's no easy in-between.

Backup is important, but if I save the data on other partition/drive which doesn't has Windows installed, if anything happens to Windows, I can format/reinstall the partition/hard disk without risking my data.

This is a good opportunity for a developer to write a script or program to move the libraries all at once, with a couple of clicks. Hmm...ponders the task...

I once was working on a project like that, using Windows Junction points... Works fine for about 90%.... Hence I've never published it.

You should consider publishing Arie. Even if it works 90%, someone else could help.

    Just my thought.
