I have a smallish C: partition which I mostly reserve for my Win2K SP4 OS. My Documents and Settings folder and subfolders are growing awkwardly large, and I'm told that I can move them to a drive of my liking. Given that these files and folders have been accumulating for a couple of years, I need to know how the trick is done without disrupting my system. Can you help?

Other things you can try are these, if you have no luck with Newts link.

    For your My Documents folder

For Windows 2000 XP and 2003 only.

    Open Windows Explorer

At the very top of the left pane, you will see a shortcut folder to (and called) My Documents, right click on it. Choose Properties.

You should see a button that says "Move ". Click it. Find the new path for your My Documents folder like d:\My Documents or choose to create a new folder. You dont have to call it My Documents by the way. Say OK. Agree when asked if you are sure you want to move it.

Thats My Docs moved. Programs like office will automatically update your default doc location so when you go to save, the new location will be the suggested save path.

    For Outlook Express Email

    Open Outlook Express

Go to Tools-Options-Maintenance and you will see a Store Folder button. Click it and do the obvious, to move your email to another drive.

If you move your email and My Docs, you have probably moved most of the movable data in your profile, and most likely these 2 things hold most of your data in volume (megabytes) anyway. Other things in your profile like Favourites and Address Book dont use much disk space at all and are not worth moving.

For help moving things like Microsoft Office Outlook data files, ask.

Oops missed a step. You have to select Properties after rightr clicking on My Documents. I will now edit my previous post to reflect this. Thanks Newt! :)
