Hi! I'm new at this so be gentle with me. I downloaded a spell checker and word expander combination. It asked me where I wanted to put it, and gave me the options. It went into C: etc. Ok, so later while I was reading some hints it said I should put it in Windows start up, so that when Windows first starts up it will automatically be activated. I can't find any info on how to move it to that particular place. Can someone help, please?

    Hi Terry, welcome aboard.

You don't want to move the installed files at all. Instead, look in the Programs folder for your account (should be C:\Docs & settings\your account\Start Menu\Programs) and see if there's a folder for the spell checker program. If so, open it and copy the program icon to the Startup folder (also in the Programs folder).

If there is no folder for the spell checker, look in C:\Program Files for the spell checker, open its folder, right-click and hold on the executable, drag it to the Startup folder, release and select Create shortcut here. You should now have a shortcut icon for the spell checker in your Startup folder. Log off and back on, and you should see a new icon in the system tray, to the left of the clock, and your spell checker should be in business.

Good luck, and please let us know how you make out.

OK, Squeak, I have to assume that you were able to make sense of what I said.

I wasn't sure my instructions were exactly correct, because my system is configured in a completely non-M$-standard way. The Gnomes of Redmond set up XP's organization and GUI in a way that makes no sense to me at all, and I've completely reconfigured it to my own tastes ... one of Windows great virtues, fortunately :).
