    Hi all,
I moved my copy of Windows 7 to another machine. It worked fine for a while now it comes up with a warning that it's not genuine and has crippled the OS. Any idea how I can fix this?

It's running in emulation on VMWare Fusion on a MacBook Pro.

    Thanks,

    Alan

A call to MS explaining what you did will fix your problem. It saw a different footprint and that is why you are having the problem.

We just purchased another copy of the Windows 7 home via the Windows seven interface. $100 was cheaper then messing around microsoft on the phone. All is fine now.

    Microsoft is the Mob

Well, as mentioned, I reinstalled the original software on the different computer. When Microsoft saw it on a different computer, it invalidated the serial number that came with the original software and wouldn't allow it to run on the new computer.

Rather then fight with them about the move, etc. I figured my time and effort were worth a lot more then the $100 they wanted for a new serial number. Kinda like the mob coming to your butcher shop seeking protection money. Sometimes it just easier to pay and get on with your life then have a fire bomb thrown through your front window. In this case, I gave them $100 an couple of progress bars later, I was running just like new in minutes. Hopefully, like the mob, they wont be coming back for more later.

The fortunate part is I don't have to deal with Windoze on a routine basis, this is running in my emulator on my mac.

Never had them act like the MOB. 99% of the time you can do it right on the PC. If not 1 phone call and you are done. Have done this procedure probably a hundred times or more. Know of other people who have also. I have NEVER had a problem with them. They are nice and friendly and very courteous the couple of times I have had to call them.

Could be it's OEM MrBill? In which case his licensed copy can only be legally used on the system it was provided with.

Windows has always been a 1 license install. They did make some Windows 7 that had 3 with them. Friend got one from Best Buy for like $150.00 about 3 months ago. When ever you try to install it on another PC, it will have it be validated again and not used on the original installed PC.

Is the copy still running on the original PC OK?
