WinXP Home with logictech USB Wheel mouse.

I looked through the "Mouse" threads here but didn't find anything.

The selection speed is very fast. I have it set for a single mouse click and
just moving the mouse over an object will do an automatic selection of that object (highlight only).

For example, when viewing a folder in detail mode and i want to delete a file in the middle of the list, i highlight it with the mouse but i have to be carefull to not move the mouse over any other files while trying to get to the delete icon in the toolbar. This happens no matter how fast i move the mouse.

Is there a way to slowdown the selection (highlight) speed?

    thanks,

I don't use the single-click-to-open option so can't say for sure but have you tried setting the double-click speed slower? It could have an effect and if not, nothing lost.

Try this to correct mouse speed.

    Start/C'trl Panel/Printer and other hardware/Mouse/Pointer Options.

Review what the other tabs do while you are there.

Double-click is 4 points from the right of the scale (but i use single-click).
Pointer scheme is 3D-Bronze (system scheme) with point shadow enabled.
    Pointer options are:
pointer speed = fast, Snap To Default Button is enabled,
    Pointer trails is enabled,
and Hide pointer while typing is enabled.
Wheel is set to 1 screen at a time.

    Nothing else is set.
I dont see any thing that would let me reduce the selection time.

    thanks for the reply,

If your pointer speed is set to "fast ", try slowing it down. Mine has a scale to drag, and it is directly to the left of the doubleclick speed setting.

I cut the speed in half but it made no difference in how fast an icon gets
selected when the mouse passes over it.

    thanks,

What you are describing is the "hover speed ". TweakUI has additional settings for hover and focus under "mouse ". Both versions, old and new, are here. If you decide to get them both, you can safely disregard the message about uninstalling the old one before the new one- they work fine together. Each doea a few things the other does not.

I can sympathize with the inconvenience. If I click my Start button carelessly, up pops my All Programs menu, before I have a chance to ease the cursor to the right. But I have hover speed set to fast because of the other software I use.

    clif ...

Make life easy on yourself ... instead of clicking, highlighting, and then using the toolbar icon to delete, right-click to highlight and select Delete from the context menu that opens. Or, you can highlight and use the Delete key.

    JSS3rd,

    Yep, that did it.
It was set to 1, changed it to 100 (ms) and now it works much better.

    thanks a bunch
