I have a wireless explorer 2 mouse. I have never had problems with it. Now, the speed settings keep resetting on reboot. I unloaded, cleaned and reloaded the software. What the heck?

To me, settings that won't hold after a restart or reboot means that it is set at a level that can't be run and goes back to default.

Could there be any drivers/software installed from a previous mouse? Also, OEM manufacturers might include keyboard and mouse "helper" programs, look for those.

Look at where you make the setting. Settings in Control Panel -> Mouse could conflict with the software settings.

If I install a wireless mouse and it does not require drivers for extra buttons or other specialised requirements, I don't install the software at all. I get it recognised and find it works fine.
