Some setting has changed in my Netbook (the only thing I did recently was install Windows 7 SP1) and hovering my mouse pointer over an item selects it without a click. Then one click opens it instead of two. I can't find the setting under Synaptics Pointing Device. What would it be called? Unchecking tap to click doesn't do anything that I can see. (What does this setting checked do?). Under Pointing device properties what does enable pointer shadow do? Is unchecking this supposed to restore the single click to select and double click to open?

You need to look elsewhere ....

Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > General - check the setting for 'Click items as follows'.

(Alternatively Control Panel > Folder Options)

Enables a shadow under the pointer - sort of 3D effect.

Tap to click - as it says - tap the touchpad as opposed to using the left pad click button.

That's where I've seen it before! Thanks Pete.
