    Hi
I have a Dell Dimension C521 Desktop with WinXP that would not start - long story short - I acquired another (which had a broken case) and moved the motherboard into my original PC. when I boot it, it will load Windows ok, but the mouse and keyboard are not recognised. If I boot into setup or utility partition, both work fine. I noticed that the light on the mouse (reflective type) was on up until part way through the Windows XP load screen.

I swapped my HD for the one that was in the scrap machine. That boots ok and the peripherals work. I want to avoid transferring everything between disks if possible.

I imagine that there may be a parameter that needs to be changed in the windows boot sequence, but which one and what is the best way to get it done?

    I am puzzled...any ideas?

    Thanks

    Thanks for the tip.

I did this and during the initialisation there is a prompt for input of language etc. which requires keyboard and mouse for input...guess what, they stopped working just beforehand!

    Anybody any other ideas?

If your board has PS/2 ports try a PS/2 keyboard to perform the repair install.

Failing that, booting into safe mode and installing motherboard/chipset drivers may work (I'd still do the repair install afterwards though).
