    hi guys
    i have an aopen 2000 notebook,amd turion 64 1.6 meg,win xp home.
i had to reinstall windows and drivers, then i noticed the mouse was
stopping and going at times then some of the keyboard keys quit
working,i installed a game and the twitching is in the game too.
i checked the device manager and found no problems.
i uninstalled the drivers i installed and that didnt help.
looking through system information i saw that the vid, modem
and sound share the same irq.
ive tried some of the settings like turning down the hard ware acceleration
turning down the graphics from 32 to 16,made sure nothing was running
in the background,i tried to see if there was a difference between cold
and hot, battery or cord but i didnt see any diference i tried different
things to make it worse like playing music or a game but this had no affect.
its like the pc is slowing down then speeding back up.
    thanks for any help.

Look in Add or Remove Programs for a program that "helps" with the keypad and touchpad. All the ones I have seen are a Synaptics program. Uninstall it, it should not be required to run them. If you think you need it, should be on the disk/s that came with the laptop or you could look for an update at the Aopen website. You might want to look for any driver updates there anyway.

    hi mattman
i tried some different modem drivers and they crashed the pc.
i reinstalled windows and all the drivers but the syanaptics
drivers.the pc is not slowing down and speeding up anymore
but on occasionally the mouse will left on its own.
in the device manager there is a yellow mark,
it says other devices [sm bus controller]
ive been to the aopen,zt systems.amd board
and cant find anything on this or different mouse drivers.

In Device Manager, right-click on the SM Bus Controller and select Uninstall. If you have installed the drivers, when you reboot it should get installed correctly. If not, you may have missed installing the chipset drivers.

The problem in the mouse may be physical, rather than a driver problem. Try the mouse on another computer. If it is an optical mouse, it may be getting reflections off the surface. You may need to use a mouse pad.

You can uninstall the mouse in Device Manager, the basic drivers are "universal" and will be reinstalled when you reboot.

My original theory was that a program that may have an influence over the mouse is the problem. Look through the list in Add or Remove Programs, see if you can spot a program that has an influence over "Human Interface Devices" (mouse, keyboard, keypad, touchpad, etc).

    drivers,mouse

    hi mattman
the drivers for the sm bus controller are not instaled,
i tried to uninstall it and windows still could not find the drivers.
when i reinstalled windows i checked the mouse and it was left
clicking on its own from first boot before any drivers or software
the mouse is a touch pad and cannot be tried on another pc.
i looked in the add remove programs and the only thing there
is the drivers i installed.i used dun to connect to the internet
to make sure this was not a software problem.
any idea what the sm bus controller is so i can find and install
    the drivers?

After visiting the four corners of the internet, I still don't know what motherboard chipset the Aopen 2000 has. I saw "xpress 200M ", but found no drivers. If it is a AMD motherboard chipset, it seems they let Windows install the drivers.

When you boot into Windows or before you shutdown, uninstall that driver. It may get installed correctly eventually.

Aopen don't seem to have updated any of their drivers, they are all dated 2005 (you may not want to hold your breath). Look into using "Update the drivers" in Device Manager, go into the Properties (right-click), but I have never known this to fix the drivers I want updated and I would be ultra-sceptical in that they may be the wrong drivers anyway.

I find after several reboots the drivers may get installed automatically (or I find updates for the motherboard chipset drivers, which does not seem possible in this case).

Touchpad is a little different from "mouse ". They both run the cursor on the screen. Think of them as different, but the same :D

The Synaptics (drivers) software helps with Touchpad/Keypad. Connecting an external mouse or keyboard is a little different.

Be a little careful about mouse/touchpad and keyboard/keypad on a laptop.

i found a driver at amd but its for winxp sp2 and i have sp1,
ill try uninstalling that sm bus controller a couple of times
    and see what happens.
the mouse or touchpad drivers i downloaded from aopen
are the ones that causes the computer to act up.

You will need to install SP2. You may not be able to get the SMBus Controller drivers installed without it. The mouse/touchpad may rely SMBus Controller, so one won't work without the other.

Was it left-clicking when you touch the Touchpad? The Touchpad probably has "Tapping ", where if you tap, it is a left-click signal. I find Tapping is too sensitive and disable it. On my laptop, it is under Control Panel -> Mouse -> UltraNav tab -> Settings (TouchPad Properties) -> Tapping -> Enable Tapping.
[UltraNav is probably the equivalent of Synaptics.]

    notebook drivers

    hi mttman
the mouse has a ps2 mouse installed with no settings like
the synaptics driver does.you can put the pointer over
a file or folder wait a few seconds and it will turn it blue
on its own. i found that sm system management bus
cotroller has something to do with prosesor speed and
temperature control,im gonna try upgrading to sp2
and try the drivers from amd.
    thanks peanut
