Help! My mouse suddenly freezes at startup. Key board locks up also. I have tried three different mouse with the same results. The computer is running on XP Home. I installed a new HD and loaded XP Pro but still has the same problem. The computer is about one year old.

Can you get it to boot at all? Have your tried safe mode and system restore? Is this an every time problem or an occasional one? I gather it started recently?

Restart the PC and at the BIOS beep hold down F8 - a 'Dos-type' screen will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate up to 'Safe Mode' at the top of the list.

    If F8 doesn't work try F5 - both work on my m/c

I can get into the "DOS' type screen and select safe mode, but the computer still won't boot. This all started after my mouse failed to function.

    My mouse freezes, too!

Ross426, did you ever find out why your mouse and keyboard freeze? Mine freeze after boot-up. Usually, it "thaws," but sometimes I have to shut down the computer by pushing the no-no button. And this seems to be happening more frequently.
