Most often occurrence in YAHOO! (IE 5.5), my mouse freezes for no reason and completely locks up the computer. Any ideas on why this is happening? I am using a Sony VAIO mouse that came with my computer, and I also have an Intellipoint mouse (or something similar), both of which have the same problems. In all other Windows environments, I have been able to do an ctrl alt del to find the "offending" program. I get nothing from Windows XP.

Is this just an XP thing or what? I use Windows 2000 in my job, and the task manager is most excellent when you have a program or individual problem.

    Any information would be appreciated.

Anything interesting in the event logs?

Task manager - any task showing as "not running "?

Processes - any showing as taking a huge amount of memory or cpu time?

Sony VAIO mouse?? I'm familiar with the Sony Laptops in the VAIO series but not a particular mouse. USB?

In fact, have you tried with a serial mouse? Possible that a USB port is bad.
