spotta--I do not know the answer to your question, but
    1) Have you explored Control Panel|Accessibility Options? There are several tabs, one to allow you to use the keyboard to perform mouse functions.
    2) Have you tried calling your local Arthritis Foundation (look in the Phone Book--Business pages)?

A trackball! Go to your local comp store and try them out. It reduces hand strain considerably, and is more convenient to use anyway.

The Microsoft Trackman Explorer (with the trackball) is good for someone with artritis. I have a friend who is very badly affected with this and this is the mouse he uses. You may need to disable the left side button features if your hand seizes up as it is easy to activate these. Otherwise I know this mouse has proved one of the best my friend has tried and he has tried quite a few.

I am using it myself and have found it very comfortable to use compared to other ones.
