I have tried everything I can think of to get the mouse clock at http://www.solinas.com/clock.html to open up in Netscape 7.1 to no avail. It opens nicely in IE6. Why would it open in one and not the other.

Some things work in IE and do not work in Mozilla or Firefox. I could not get the clock to work in Firefox. Write to the author and perhaps she will be able to modify it for you. Let us know what happens!
The clock is cute but it would be very annoying after a while. It's also hard to read the date because it rotates too fast.

You can try to get the User Agent Switcher toward the bottom of the page. It does a great job of faking the browser you are using. However, it is strongly discouraged to use after the initial application.

Could you please explain that? The initial application of what -- the clock or the User Agent Switcher?

Of the User Agent Switcher. Most sites, like this frown upon faking the User Agent.
I tried it in 7.2, and it does not show up. It does in IE, and it drove me up the wall in 5 sec., confirming ackenberg's observation. And, it does not work faking to be IE6, from NS7.2.
So, if you like it, you will have to use IE. If you have a way to contact the author, please do it, but I would not touch it.
