I have recently (the last week or so) started using my wireless mouse with my left hand. I switched the left and right click functions, so that my left index finger now gives me a "left" click, whereas my left middle finger now gives me a "right" click.

I have noticed that my index finger clicks will work most of the time, but more and more, the past few days, it seems like something is wrong. Often I will click on something, then move the mouse, and my laptop thinks I am dragging the item that I clicked on. Or alternately, I will click on something, and nothing happens at all.

What options are there for resolving this? At first I didn't do anything, b/c I thought that it would get better with time, as I continued to work the mouse with my left hand--but it is getting worse with time.

Well I'll experiment with the click speed options and see what that does.

Who is the manufacturer of the mouse?

It is a logitech wireless mouse. Not sure about the model number, although it would have cost about 20-30 bucks (max) a few years ago. I would have replaced my MS Mouse some time in 2011 (with this one).

Yes, the trackpad is set to be disabled whenever a USB mouse is plugged in.

OK I set my pointer speed to be faster (moved it to the right) in pointer options.

Perhaps I am dragging stuff, b/c my left hand just isn't as fast in bringing the finger off the mouse when I think I'm done clicking. OK I'll see if a faster pointer speed is what does the job.

Pointer speed had nothing to do with it. I made it faster, and noticed the same problem, so i made it slower and all it did was make the cursor move more slowly as I dragged the mouse across my mousepad.

So I went into another tab and speeded up the double click option. I'll see if that does anything.

Man I just changed the battery. The old one still had a charge; there wasn't any red light at all (the typical warning when battery power drops in this mouse), but I wanted to rule that out. So it wasn't a low battery.

Man I'm hoping that this mouse isn't dying of old age. I use it a lot, but I'd expect more than 3 years out of a Logitech mouse.

I swapped it out with a logitech mouse that was just purchased 2 weeks ago and this new mouse is flying along. I'm beginning to think that my mouse is conking out on me. Too bad. I've started a thread in a logitech forum to see if they can help me out. I can't believe that a logitech mouse would go out after 3 years. I bought them b/c I was told they last year after year.

Did you install the Logitech Set Point software.

No, I just prefer the basic Windows driver for the mouse. instead of a utility that will tell me the temperature of the room the mouse is in (in a 3-D graph).... well you get my drift. :)

I'm seeing if Windows has an update for the driver itself. I disabled the driver, then rebooted....so far feels better, but I'll see.

Before I get another mouse, I'll go the full kit and kaboodle with SetPoint and see if that doesn't help.

Good. Sometimes that software is suspect when using a mouse left handed.

I also am right-handed but use the mouse with my left hand - only I did not swap the mouse button functions as that confuses my brain more than just swapping sides.

I was going to suggest you try moving the functions back to normal (right-handed) operation and see if the buttons seems to function properly again. If they do work fine, then it is not a mechanical issue with the mouse, but a driver issue.

Intersting, but honestly I think I'd prefer to buy a new mouse. It is very intuitive for me to click with my index finger for a "left" click.

Even after installing the latest SetPoint logitech software, the mouse is still behaving erratically. I forgot to add that one of the behaviors was not moving across teh screen when I didn't move the mouse, but simply disappearing and reapparing somewhere else on the screen. And its been doing that this morning.

OK time to ask if I want to go back to corded mice. But that's another thread.

Exactly! That is why I did not switch button functions.

I keep a can of compressed dusting gas handy when that happens as it is usually a speck of dust or dog hair over the lens.

I think I misunderstood you. I switched button functions b/c I like to "left" click with my left index finger, which rests over the right button.

I'll get on that. Since I stopped dealing with mouse balls, I've neglected maintaining and cleaning mice in any way shape or form. I'll shoot some air onto the lense.

No, I confused you as I knew what you meant. I just mean my left index finger has no problem finding or clicking the left mouse button to activate left-click features. So as long as the mouse is not a "contoured" mouse (one "ergonomically" shaped for the right hand only) I have no problems using a standard right handed mouse in my left hand without swapping button functions in the mouse menu options.

To me, left click means "left" click - regardless which hand does the clicking.

Just a matter of personal preference.

I've been using the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX ever since it came out and love it.

Exactly, to each their own. In fact, within 30 mins of the first day I tried switching hands and functions, I was right and left clicking with my middle and index fingers quicker than my brain could figure out and tell my fingers what to click on. I could left click a folder on my bookmarks bar, right click a bookmark, and then left click the "open in new tab" much faster than my brain could figure out the commands, so I'm happy with what I have now. I could see, however, that some might simply prefer to use their index finger.

This is actually why (except for construction "quality ") you really cannot go by what any one else says when choosing the right mouse for you. Your mouse (and keyboard too) is an extension of YOUR hands, not mine. What "feels" good to me, may not for you. So when shopping for a new mouse or keyboard, I generally recommend visiting your local computer store and play "touchy feely" with the devices yourself, then choose the one that "feels" right in YOUR hand.

That said, I have a nice smaller "omni" (shaped for both hands) Logitech V450 Nano I use with notebook that I really like.

But for my PCs, I use Microsoft Comfort 5000 wireless mouse and keyboard sets. I don't know who really makes the mice and keyboards for Microsoft, but they are quality made.

No, this mouse is dying. Some 5 mins after shooting the lense w/ compressed air, the cursor skipped about 6-7 inches on my screen just now.

OK now the question is, corded or wireless.

I'm glad you've gotten your money's worth from them. My MS 3000 wireless lasted just under a year.
