Hi... I was wondering with the Motherboards as to which sockets is on its way out meaning discontinued and which are going to be around for a long while ? I'm thinking to build a new comp and I want a board ( socket ) that's going to be around for a while ... Thanks

BTW the new comp isn't for any gaming or video editing , just basic surfing and watching HD Movies ...

By socket I assume you mean CPU socket?

Buy whatever you can afford alongside the CPU with a little look at upgrading, trust me by the time you want to seriously upgrade your CPU your motherboard would be worthless anyway.

Yes this is what I meant . I want to get a new intel board with the newest socket , one that I know will be good enough for future operating systems. I'm not planning to upgrade but build new . Thanks

Intel typically changes socket much more rapidly & with every new CPU than AMD. You buy a board with CPU socket for the CPU that you want to use & not the other way round.

If you are looking only for future operating systems , then any latest CPU would do. Buy a matching motherboard with lots of RAM/SATA slots & you should be good to go. Stop worrying about the future.
